Meet Dr. Troy M. Lefort, DDS

Dr. Troy M. Lefort grew up in Cut Off, a small town in south Louisiana, where he developed the strong work ethic and community values that guide his practice today. His path to orthodontics began at Louisiana Tech University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in the sciences. He then completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at LSU School of Dentistry, one of the leading dental programs in the Southeast.

Driven to specialize, Dr. Lefort pursued advanced orthodontic training at Columbia University in New York City. He completed a full orthodontic residency followed by two additional years of post-doctoral study, building expertise in biomechanics, treatment planning, and craniofacial development that few orthodontists in southwest Louisiana can match. His training covered the full range of orthodontic treatments, from early treatment for children to complex adult cases involving jaw alignment and skeletal considerations.

After training in one of the most competitive orthodontic environments in the country, Dr. Lefort chose to return to Louisiana. He founded Lefort Orthodontics in Lake Charles in 2005, later expanding to a second office in Sulphur, to bring advanced orthodontic care closer to families across the region. Over the past 20 years, he has treated patients of all ages, from children getting their first evaluation at age seven to adults pursuing orthodontic treatment later in life.

Dr. Lefort is also the creator of Lefort Aligners, a proprietary clear aligner system designed and fabricated in his own on-site lab. While most orthodontists outsource aligner production to third-party manufacturers, Dr. Lefort personally oversees every step, from iTero digital scan to finished tray. That direct involvement gives patients a level of precision and customization that national aligner brands simply cannot replicate.

His approach to care is rooted in something simple: treat every patient the way you would treat your own family. That means taking the time to explain each treatment option, answering questions honestly, and building a plan that fits your goals, your timeline, and your budget. Outside the office, Dr. Lefort stays close to his Louisiana roots. He is an avid fisherman and hunter who spends his weekends outdoors with family and friends, often on the water or in the woods of southwest Louisiana. That connection to the land and the community is part of who he is, and it shapes how he runs his practice.
